A WIFE'S DESERTION.

In the Divorce Court,' Alfred Hill, the composer, sought a dissolution of his marriage on the grounds of desertion. The petitioner stated that after their marriage they went to New Zealand, and subsequently he returned to Sydney with, his wife's consent. Since then, for ten years, he had been trying to induce fter to join him, but she had not done so. She never actually refused to return. Mrs. Hill gave evidence to the effect that her reason for not joining him was his unsettled position in Sydney. She sever refused to return. She never bad any intention of deserting him, and • she was willing to live with him. The Court found desertion proved, as from three years prior to 1918, and granted a decree nisi, returnable in six months.-'Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Alfred Hill is the well-known musician who produced the opera "The Moorish Maid," and composed the opera "Tapu." For four years he was conductor of the Wellington Orchestral Society, and then neld many important posts in the mimical world of Australia. He also, at one time, conducted for J. C. WilliauMon.
