WEST END CLUB. OPENING OP THE SEASON. The West End Club's season was offlclallj opened yesterday afternoon, when there was n big attendance of bowlers on the green. The weather was line, though overcast, anc players spent ar enjoyable day. In welcoming visitors, the president (Mr, J. Lobb) said that the attendance was convincing proof of >the Increasing popularity of the game. Hef took occasion to thanli those who had at ail times helped the Club, and hoped that the same spirit of goodwill would continue. He particularly mentlored , the generosity, of Mr. ,T, D. Sole In giving , a shield for the junior competition. Prizes won during the season were presented by the president as follows: Seniors: , Mr.. T. Billing (second year); juniors, Mr. I Mfsrley. A preset, tatlon of a walking stick and fountain, pen were made to the secretary (Mr. Houeylield), In appreciation of the ' services rendered by him, and the president ' In eulogising the secretary's work said he was a great acquisition to the Club. ; 0n behalf of the Clubs of Now Plymouth, Mr. A. K. Smart presented to Mr. Lobb the Gilmour Cup, which had been won by ,the West ' Krd Club In the Saturday competition for the I second year in succession. Mr. Smart congratulated West I.'ru! 011 their win. ' Prior to the opening of play, representatives , of various clubs expressed best wishes for t a successful season .for the (Vest End Club, i The speakers were: Messrs. A. K.
