U.S. PRESIDENCY.

REPUBLICAN PLATFORM. By Tslegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. New York, Oct. 5. The Australian Press Association telegraphed to Mr. W. G. Harding (the Republican nominee for the Presidency) the following questions:— "In the community of nations which you advocate instead of the Versailles Treaty, what provisions would be made for representation of the British Do. minions? "There is a tendency in the Dominions to seek to establish virtually independent diplomatic representatives in Washington. Would you encourage this? "Would you, as President, advocate any fonn of co-operation between Australia and the United States in patrolling and safeguarding the interests of civilisation in th* Pacific?" Mr. Harding replies through his secretary as follows:—"If vested with responsibility in connection with the foreign relations of the United States, it will be my hope and purpose to work out, in concert with representatives of other nations and with the advice and co-operation of the ablest minds in America, plans and policies which will be just to all peoples and all governments. I will not attempt now or hereafter to speak for the American people or the Republican Party, except as commissioned by the electors of the country and the elected representatives of the party." —Aus.-N.Z.
