A FIXE CATALOCUE. Admirers of Jersey cattle will 'have a rare opportunity to-morrow (Thursday) of securing heifers full of breed characteristics and rich in butler-fat. producing qualities, for/in conjunction wltt Messrs. Newton King, Ltd.'s annual sale of notlifrree Jerseys to be held at the Waiwakaiho, Mr John Hale, one of the foremost anl most, successful breeders, not merely in the province of Tarauaki but of the whole Dominion, is submitting for sale seventeen 18 to 20-imonth heifa'rs and ten young bulls. All the animals are in really splendid condition, a striking tribute to the care with which Mr. Hale and his family tend the herd, whilst for all round quality it is questionable indeed whether any single vendor has ever submitted a finer lot of heifers. Any of It-.em are fit to grace any show vli.fr, and all are richly bred on butter-fat lines, for Mr. Hale, whilst paying due regard to true type, has always attached, and rightly so, the utmost importance to butter-fat producing qualities. For years he has been steadily "breeding up," with tile result tint today his herd comprises quite a number of | Animals' which have registered meritorious performances under semi-ofD"ial testing, and 1 the heifers that will he submitted on his uc'ount on Thursday can bo relied upon absolutely to maintain the high standard which has hnen reached by the herd, whilst the bulls c.it'liot fall to produce dairy cattle of tl:o highest quality. The cattle will be keenly sought after by admirer* of the Jersey who aro in search' of animals combining quality with producing ability, and Mr. Hale should have a record sal*. Another very fine, lot of cattle will be submitted for sale on the same day, on behalf of Mr. P. 11. K. Surrey, of Hjii.rangi, consisting of 12 cows, 5 two-year heifers. 4 yearling heifers, a three-year and a two-year bull, atd a number of calves. Like Mr. Hale, Mr. Surrey is also one of Taranaki's pioneer breeders, and he too has bred wtth great success, as is shown by the general excellence and all-round quality of tho animals he Is submitting for sale. In Mr. Surrey's case it Is a clearing sale, and the whole of tho cattle to he offered on his behalf are for absolute sale, and without reserve. Mr. Surrey recently acquired an extension of Tiis farming

area, and has very reluctantly decided to quit the whole of his pedigree stork, with the exception of one bull, because ho finds he is unable to devote the necessary time to breeding. He lias, since starting to breed pedigree Jerseys, found it necessary on several occasions to hold sales of his surplus stock, the last, of which ho held sis years ago. All tbeso sales were attended with great success, the cattle always being sought-after and well distributed throughout the North Island, and they have given every satisfaction to purchasers. The present day herd is a production of 2"i years' breeding, and the sale offers a rare opportunity to Inters of Jerseys to secure something really good either for building up existing herds or for foundation purposes. A very select lot of cattle will also be offered on account of other vendors. The catalogue all through is an exceptionally fine one. and, as already stated, offers a rare opportunity to prospective purchasers. *
