TURF TOPICS. • (By "Moturoa.") ' The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's spring meeting takes place at Hastings to-day, the principal events beirg the Hawke's Bay Cuineas, the Hastings Stakes (four furlongs), the 1 Spring Handicap (one mile and a quarter), and the Plying Handicap (six furlongs). The Hawke'a Bay Guineas closed with seventeen three-year-olds, but Hallowell and one or two others were left iv through 'oversight. Duo. Humbug, Gas Bag, Raceful, Weil Bone and Delight represent recent form, but the race Is, considered to lie between Duo and Humbug. The former carries Tibs, extra for winning the Wanganui Guineas, and this should bring the two colts together. Twenty remained In the Haslir.gs Stakes, for two-year-olds, and a satisfatcovy field Is sure to lino up. Amongst those engaged are Mr. Bruce Joll's Danger Zone (Martian —Crimson Hose), and Cold Steel (Martian— Snowstell), and their form will be followed with interest by Taranaki sports. Others engaged are Fulsome (Absurd—Eulogy), wirier of the Prince of. Wales Stakes at Greenmeadows; Toa Taua (Mountain Knight—Fairy Gold), runner up to Fulsome; and. Mermin (Absurd—Sea Elf), winner of the Avondale Stakes. On public form Fulsome and Mermin read as well as anythlig. Both are by Absurd, and Mr. G. Currie's sire appears to be likely to make a name for himself ,as a progenitor of two-year-olds that come to hand early. Rational is, another of the Absurd's. In winning the Taradale Hurdles in 3 17 4-5 Kohu was responsible for a'good gallop, and If he can repeat that, form he stould win again very soon.

Molyneaux is now at the top of his form and should keep on winning Others that are due for a win shortly are Honey Bee, Ben Bolt, and Houen.

On Wangar-ui form Volo la not over-weighted In tho Masterton Cup with 9,11, and the improving Jtiss Gold looks well in the Flying Handicap with 8.5. Judging hy the fine entries In the Jumpers' Flat Races, this class of event is going to he popular this season. A condition of the Lawn Hack Handicap at Masterton is that neither wtlps nor spurs are allowed to be carried. Certainly most apprentices would be letter without a whip, but some of the youngsters riding lately will find it difficult to hang on without "hooks."

Weights for the Waverley meeting ace due on Friday.

riekpockets were very busy on the occasion of the recent race meeting held It' Wangam»i. One sportsman, who was a big winner "',er White Hanger, was; relieved of about £4OO. '
