UNION FEDERATION MOVEMENT. Bf Teleirraph.—Press As»n.—CopyrleM. Melbourne, Oct. 5. In accordance with a direction oE the Seanyn'.s Union executive, a stop work meeting of seamen was held to hear the report of delegates who have been attending a conferee of the Transport Workers' Federation in Sydney. They explained that trouble had occurred over the internal management of the organisation, and Mr. Murray (president) resigned. Investigation of the matter was proceeding. They also explained proposals of the transport workers to link up with the seamen, waterside workers, coal miners, and other unions, making the membership of the new organisation close on 40,000. It is understood that a resolution was adopted assuring the Transport Workers' Federation of the seamen's willingness to co-operate. At the close of the meeting the seamen returned to their ships..—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
A QUEENSLAND LOAN. ■ Brisbane, Oct. 5. Mr. E. G. Theodore (Premier of Queensland), speaking at Mackay, said that the Government was raising locally a loan of £2,000,000, voluntarily if possible, but compnlsorily if necessary. Not a penny piece in dividends should be made by the London capitalists, who had cut off supplies. The loan is for development, and the Queensland Government will have it. Much doubt has been cast on the genuineness of the State rolls, which are said to contain more names than the adult population of Queensland. The enrolment exce'eds the Commonwealth roll by 64,000.—Au5.-N.Z. Cable Asm. RE-OPENING AT BROKEN HILT, Melbourne, Oct. 4. The mine managers at Broken Hill have been instructed by the companies to take steps to re-open the mines at the earliest opportunity.—Aus.-N.Z. Gable A'ssn.
