WAITAKI SCHOOL FIRE." By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 5. The Hon. C. J. Parr, replying ta a deputation from the Governors of the Waitaki High School which asked for assistance in rebuilding the class rooms and laboratory destroyed, by the firo, said he felt that the Government was committed in giving reasonable assistance and he would lose no time in placing the request for £7OOO before Cabinet. The Minister referred to the low insurance on the building and said the loss at Waitaki should be a lesson to all boards. AIR FLIGHT TO WANGANUI Wanganui,' Oct. 5. _ The first aeroplane flight from Wellington to Wanganui was successfully made to-day. Captain Russell left Petone at 10.7 o'clock this morning and arrived at Wanganui at 11.27, the trip thus taking an hour and twenty minutes. The weather was perfect for the trip, and the landing at Westmere was perfect. Great interest was taken and the flight over the town was watched by a big crowd. PLUMBER OBTAINS DAMAGES.
Auckland, Oct. 5. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., gave his reserved judgment in a claim for £lO 10s damages against three master plumbers in favour of a journeyman who left employment where he was earning 2a Id an hour and got another job at 2s 3d an hour. As a result of a' meeting of the Master Plumbers' Association, a deputation interviewed the plaintiff's new employer, with the result that the plaintiff was not allowed to start work. Had a deputation of trade unionists induced a .worker to break an agreement and the workmen did so, the union would be liable under common law, and the defendants in this case were liable.
Judgment was given for the amount claimed.
