TIMBER SUPPLIES.

I .- • 1 | THE KORU ROAD BUSH. ! PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH MILL. i Supplies of timber existing on the UpI per Carrington Road and Koru districts, : in the Taranaki County, have been prospected with a view to being worked : by a New Plymouth firm. At the monthly meeting of the Taranaki County Council yesterday, the Sash and Door Timber Company wrote, notifying that they had secured options over some of the sections in the locality mentioned, but before committing themselves to any large expenditure desired to know the feelings of the Council in respect of the heavy traffic which would result on the Koru Road in the event of a mill being opened. The company remarked on the everincreasing shortage of timber for building purposes, and the great demand existent. Difficulty was being experienced in obtaining supplies from the Main Trunk mills, and therefore attention had been directed to supplies in the local ' district. A good deal had previously ; been milled from the Carrington Road side, and it was thought that for the remaining portion the Koru Road would be the best outlet. The proposal was to establish a mill and bring out by tram to Koru Road, thence by motor lorry ft) New Plymouth.

Messrs. W. H. Skinner and W. G. Reid waited on the Council in support of the request.

Buring the discussion of the matter, councillors estimated the minimum output of the mill would be 1,000,000 ft per annum. The capacity would be up to 10,000 ft per day. Subsequently it was decided that permission be given to the company to transport timber by motor lorry over the road in consideration of a payment of 9d per 100 ft, loads to be limited to four tons, and the company also to be held responsible for any damage arising from any other cartage in connection with the undertaking.
