DOUGLAS. (Prom Our Own Correspondent,) The unusual spell of frosty weather, which bo seriously retarded She £iwth ol • spring feed, Is being followed by exceptionally wet i conditions, which, while .doubtless promoting! growth, is hard on stock In poor condition,! and must be causing anxiety to raariy dairymen. To one accustomed to southern winter conditions, and the provision made' there for the feeding of all stock, it appears tfcat the average northern farmer, instead of: making provision for all possibilities, depends altogether too much on the ihilder .'northern clLonato to pull him through. The consequence too often is a serious loss of stock, or a toad start, and half the season gone before the herd is in a condition to milk satisfactorily. Some form of summer recreation Is badly needed in Douglas, and to meet this- need it is proposed to form a tennis club for the coming season. The district has already been canvassed for financial support, with very gratifying results, and a strong committee l.'as been formed to prepare for the formation of a court on Jand adjoining the public hall. In the meantime practice tp>}l be had on a court in the school ground. Next ' month the school children are giving a juvenile fancy dress ball to raise funds to buy themselves tennis racquets and balls.
