TARANAKI A. AND P. SOCIETY.

SHOW DATES ALTERED. SECOND WEEK IN MAEiCH. The matter of the clash of show dates between the Taranaki and Egmont A. and P. Societies was discussed at a special meeting of the Taranaki Society's general committee on Saturday. There was a large attendance of members, the President (Mr. W. B. Grant) occupying the chair. The usual dates for the New Plymouth autumn show are the Wednesday and Thursday in the first week in March, but this year the Hawera Society decided to hold its fixture on these dates, namely, 2nd and 3rd March. The President said this was the second occasion on which the Hawera Society had appropriated t'he New Plymouth show dates. He could hardly think that it was an oversight. The attitude they adopted was—first come, first served —and it was a. wrong one. He j referred to the difficult)' of fixing another date on account of numerous other shows and race meetings about t'he same period, but thought they should endeavor to obliterate any feeling In the mat- . ter and do what was best for the Society. He moved that the dates be altered to the second week in March. Mr. A. E. Washer seconded the motion. On Mr. Pigott's suggestion, a condition was inserted in the motion, giving the Taranaki Society the right to take their own dates nest time if they desired. Mr. F.< Stanley favored adhering to the previous resolution, and let each Society stick to its own dates. The President said this would not be in the best interests of the Society, Mr. Kurth inquired if the dates for shows could not be fixed as in the manner adopted for race meetings. It was stated that a remit to this effect had been rejected at an annual conference. The President said he understood the Masterton Society had written to the Hawera Society, asking them to alter the previous dates, as there was a clash between the fixture and some Masterton event. Mr. W. Hall supported the proposal for altering the dates on this occasion. Considerable discussion followed, and members took occasion to express strong resentment at the action of the Hawera Society. Subsequently the following motion j was carried by 16 to s:—That it be a recommendation to the general meeting j that the previous resolution he rescindI ed, and that the Society take the Wednesday and Thursday in the second week I in March, on condition that a conference be held between the two societies before fixing show dates in future. The resolution comes up for confirmation at the usual meeting on Saturday.
