MATAI' (From Our Own CiM'e-nonclent.) A meeting of the Matm Ratepayers' and SJcttlers' Association was Mil at the Public School on Saturday, 25th ult., to further discuss tlie County quostlon and proposal with reference to the metalling of the access roads. The evening was very wet, and th 9 attendance not representative enough to have a tjetit deal of weight on any question. Sir. D. S. Holley, in the absence of the Tresident, presided over an attendineo of twenty members. On the County Question being brought forward, the meeting Immediately became "lively." Members protested that the proposal to join the Inglewood. County was'brought forward without sufficient notice, and all decided that careful consideration should be given before the Inglewocd petition was forwarded. In the discussion it could be pla'.my seen that the majority of those present favored Stratford, the "community of Interest" plea being urged In favor of that County. As the originator of the luglewood movement was not present, it was decided to adjourn the discussion, the' secretary being instructed to circularise all ratepayers with the object of raving their opinion In writing should thoy bo unable to be present at the next meeting. In the case of having one nf the access roads metalled, tIK meeting decided in favor o! the Klore-Matau" road, that being the main outlet for the district. With regard to the location of imcta!, it was decided that the Association would bear the expense of stripping any "likely looking" Beams of metal. The motion in regard to having, the road metalled even if metal had to be brought from Mount Egmont was favorably received. The discussion was adjourned, the committee being instructed to make all enquiries re local seams and submit a rei>>ri,at next meeting. Subsequently the meeting was adjourned to October 10th, at S p.m.. Tho weather for the past week has been showery, but very warm, and has been Ideal for grass. The Maoriland Dairy Co.'s cart is now running, and it Is very convenient for settlers to have a regular service to and from the railway.
