RIFLE CLUBS AND SHOOTING.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Your paragraph with reference to rifle ciub is contrary to fact in some respects. It is shrewdly suspected by many that the idea of removing rifle clubs from the con'rol of the Defence Department is expediency, or, slm II we say, Vamouflage. That the shooting methods of the clubs "Hot on the lines shown lo he necessary in modern warfare," U utter rubbish. The club's methods are the best for any kind of ride shooting, and thoy are the only ones to give satisfactory results, in that they commence at the begln.i'ng. A run is taught to shoot slowly. The exact point of the penetration of the bullet through the target Tor every shot is shown to him by means of the spotting disc. He is taught to Ihmlt out the reasons for his direrrenco from tlie spot aimed at, and makes the necessary corrections in his aim for each succeeding shot until a degree of .accuracy is obtained and kept. That could ne'er be obtained by any other means. After that, ho c.-.a go on to any form of 'shooting. Incidentally, he is urged to provide himself with' -, -ifle sight which does not necessitate an optica! impossibility in its' use. It is remarkable if one accepts your paragraph as correct, that Sno clubman, taught under wrong methods, always wins the service matches at the rarious rifle meetings, whi'h r.iatches are supposed to be carried out on the lines r»f;u : it-.l by modern warfare. I know that the club-, mail's methods are not t'.:ose of the oris'ittry temulations, but the musketry regulations are 'ike the curates' egg—gold In parts.--?! am, etc, i ■ ' TUPLE CLUBMAN.
