Judge Beeby opened the -forty-four hour week enquiry, the Government appointing a judge to enquire whether it was justified in increasing the Parliamentarian salaries to £750 yearly. A wireless message from the steamer Melbourne reports that there is no trace of the Amelia/tr. The new 2d postage stamps are to be issued on October 10. Cabinet is to raise a local loan of £3.000,000 for public works. Perth, Sept. 29. The Legislative Council Bill for the prevention of cruelty to animals has been introduced. It makes it illegal to work a horse more than forty-eight hours a week. Doping racehorses is also prohibited. The British rifle team has arrived at Fremantle.
