Regarding this, Leo says in his letter Mother has seen what no astronomer iaR ever seen—a son eclipsing a sun." An idea of the troubles the aviators nad- to contend with can be gained from answer given by Lieut. Parer to a question as to why he flew so high. Up aloft," he replied, "the air is fairly calm.
