"You might as well say that if a muster mariner takes, a job as A.B he should be paid a master mariner's wage," remarked Mr. Justice Stringer at the Arbitration Court, Auckland, last week, illustrating the fact that a skilled worker doing unskilled labor would only be paid for unskilled work. The proposition was put by the inspector of awards, Mr. G. H. Lightfoot, whether a joiner who was temporarily doing un-, skilled machining would receive his ordinary rate of wages or the lower scale applicable to the machine work. 'Do you mean to tell me," exclaimed his Honor, raising his eyebrows, "that (limply because he is a joiner who happens to be on unskilled work, the man is to get the skJUtdjNkt#!"
