NEGLIGENT MOTOR DRIVING.
A CORONER'S SUGGESTION. By TeiegrapV' —Press Association. Christchurch, Sept. 18. The adjourned inquiry into the. death of the Rev. G. W. Harding, who died in hospital from injuries received in a collision on September 5 between a motor cycle which he was riding and a motor car, has beeii concluded. In returning a verdict that death was due to shock, following injuries, the coroner (Mr. McCarthy, S.M.) said that he would suggest, in order to deal effectively with the numerous motor accidents resulting in. damage to property and loss of life or personal injury, that a new offence be created, to be known as "negligent motor driving," rendering offenders liable to a substantial penalty or imprisonment without option of a fine, such offences to be dealt with by a special court, from the decisions of which there should be appeal to the Supreme Court in fact arid law, but that offenders should not have the right of trial by jury.
