Section 143 of the Borough Council's new by-laws which reads, "No collection whatever shall be permitted in or upon any street, or public place without the approval of the Council," was discussed, aud it was decided that in future the business people of Stratford would noti be prepared to recognise any subscript tion list or collection made by any club or body unless such subscription be authorised by the Borough .Council. The need for more accommodation in Stratford for business girls was fully discussed, the necessity for a girls' hostel being strongly stressed. It was leported that information was being obtained from the New Plymouth and Hawera Hostels, and would, be presented at the annual meeting in November. The possibility of the Association amalgamating with the Chamber of Commerce was discussed, but no decision was arrived at. GENERAL. " Mrs. J.
