In an editorial on the recent trouble on the Wellington waterfront the Auckland Star says:—"l'erhaps the ugliest feature was the hostile attitude taken up by a minority of the men when, after a meeting of the union had decided to go back to work, gangs were called to get their own way at the meeting, the opponents of a settlement made a demonstration against those who wanted to resume, a piece of tyranny that come badly from men who are never tired of railing against methods of coercion. The incident should not he lost upon the mass of workers in New Zealand. It is typical of the fact that two schools contend for mastery in the Labour world, and it behoves the moderate majority to ask themselves how much longer they are going to be injured by the extremist minority. The policy of the employers in refusing to allow shipping generally to be worked until a full complement offered for the phosphate cargo, and at the same time continuing to work this cargo, may seem questionable to some people, but we take it that it was intended a 9 a protest against intimidation and a response to the action of the men who came forward."
