A CURE FOR T.B.
BELGIAN DOCTOR'S DISCOVERY. Medical circles in Paris are profoundly stirred by an announcement from Brussels of a positive cure for tuberculosis submitted to the Congress of Medicine at its session in the Belgian capital. The following 1 are opinions of French specialists on the discovery. Dr. Charles Achard, secretary Academy Medicine: "It is possible to state that incipient tcuberculosis can positicely be cured by this method, while in the more advanced stage a longer period is to make the cure certain, thougli an improvement will be manifest and steady. —By. Injections.— "The method consists of intravenous injections cadi day or every second (lav, according to the constitution of the patient. After twenty injections the treatment is suspended for fifteen or twenty days. Thereafter a new series of injections is given, according to the strength of the patient and the virulence of the disease. "All cases subjected to this treatment have shown improvement, while many may be classed as definitely cured." —What. Inventor Says— Dr. 11. Grenet, inventor of the cure: "While it is, perhaps, too much to say that the general cure of tuberculosis has been found, it is legitimate to state that the cure of incipient and even advanced cases is perfectly possible. "Only in n, few cases have there been injurious effects in the way of fever. This, however, has been lessened by reducing, the doses of anti-toxin, "Most patients suffer no evil effects, hut rapidly improve, their appetite grows, they stop perspiring at night, sleep better and take on weight. The coughing increases during the first few days, but afterwards diminishes rapidly and'finally ceases." —Are Non-Commital.— Dr. Emile Roux, director of the Pasteur Institute: — "It will be impossible for at least 15 years to tell positively whether the new cure is perfect, because the disease may break out again within that period." Dr. Charles Eeichet, eminent physiologist:— "While all new 'enrqs' for tuberculosis must be followed up and watched with great interest, it is yet too soon to claim that a definite solution has been found." . 'Dr. Renon, pulmonary specialist:— "I personally experimented with the. new anti-toxin and can fully corroborate the statement that the effects on tuberculosis bacilli in the blood are as indicated by Drs. Grenet and Drouin."
