DOMINION TOURNAMENT, THIRD DAY'S PLAY, BOMB INTERESTING MATCHES. (By Wire.—Special Reporter.) Hamilton, Last Night. Tho New Zealand golf tournament was continued to-day under ideal conditions. A •tiff northerly wind " made tho course much harder to play. The greens were in beautiful condition, though rather keen. The first rounds of the amateur chatmpion*hip and tho professional match were played, hut there were no outstanding games. In the former event, H. B. Lusk (Auckland) playing G. SaundeTS (Wanganui) was on© up at the turn, and two up at tho thirteenth. He was beaten by the hunker at the fourteenth, losing the hole, and two fours won hira the next two holes and his match. Humphreys (Christchurch) gave R. George (Maungakiekie) a great ilght, and was one up at the turn. Level play resulted on the homeward jourtfey, and they were all square at the 17th. At the 18th George missed a two yards putt for a .three, and the hole was halved in four. Humphreys played two perfect shots to the l&th., and in a par four won the match. George's chip shots were too weak. Rainger (Auckland) was one up on .T. B. McEwan (Wellington) at the ninth, and won the tenth Halves followed at the next four, but McEwan won the last four. When llainger was expected to hold on to his lead he fell away. I. Saunders (Wanganui), playing to the eighth, sent a drive into the rough. He played a brassy and holed out in two. The distance, was 391 j-ards. Dr. Ross (Dunedin) again played great golf. He went out in 37, and was six up on J. Harold (Wanganui) at the turn. Getting fours at the following three holes, Ross won by a large margin. R D. Wright (Maungakiekie) put up a fine . performance against C. Bidwlll (Wairarapa). 1 He was three down at the ninth, and starting home In 3, 4, 4, 5, 3, he reduced the lead to one. He won the 17th with a perfect , four, but simply threw away his chance on the last green. He was on in two to Bidwill's three, but took four putts. In the professional match, Kirkwood v. Moss, the former was five up at the turn, and just missed a two at this hole. At the tenth Moss failed to hole a two foot putt for a three Kirkwood played two perfect halves in fours, making him dormy six. Both players got into the rough at the next. Ofcoss had an awful lie and chipped out short of ihe bunker. Kirkwood decided to risk a baffy, and won the hole in four, and the match 7 up and 5 The round was played out, and he completed it In 73. Moss took 80. Blair (Auckland) playing East (NS.W.) started by losing the first five holes. He won the 6th and 7th., and 'lost the Bth„ and he was four down at the turn. He won the 10th and 12th, doing 374 y'ards in a perfect three, and reducing the lead to 2 up. East was three up at the 15th, but he lost the 16th. Blair put his second into the rough at tho 17th., and failed to recover, losing the match Brooks (Hutt) and McEwan (Heretaunga) had a great struggle. Brooks was 2up at the turn, but then began to putt weakly, while McEwan improved. At the 16th., McEwan holed In three (bogey five), and Brooks lest the hole, making them all square. Brooks lost the 17th by missing a two foot putt, and at the last hole he had McEwan stymied. The latter played for a safe half and won the match.
