MANY CHANGES SOUGHT. ACCEPTANCE UNLIKELY. , (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. The Licensing Amendment Bill, which is intended to prevent the removal of licenses beyond the statutory limit, is awaiting its committee stago in the House, The Prime Minister stated last week that lie would not accept any new clauses in this Bill, but his statement laas not deterred Mr. W. D. Lyanar (Gisborne), and Mr. R. McCallum (Wairau) from giving notice of very extensive amendments by way of addition. Mr. Lysnar proposes to move four rtew clauses providing that . licensing' polls shall be taken on a day separate from the general election, that liquor shall oe sampled officially more frequently, that license fees shall be a percentage tax on liquor sold, and that accommodation at hotels shall be increased. • Mr. McCallum has about thirty new clauses on the order paper, embodying the provisions of his own State Control (f Licenses Bill. This Bill proposes the re-casting of the whole licensing system on lines that Mr. McCallum has already explained Jo the House more than once.
