Some very encouraging and interesting reports have been received by the Women Prisoners' Welfare League concerning the Clinton Farms at New Jersey, U.S.A., where large numbers of women prisoners have received good farm and domestic training, which has led them to become capable people, quite able to earn their own living, which perhaps they were unable to do respectably when committed to prison. ' The life at these farms is made normal, as far as possible, and amusement •of a healthy kind forms part of the plan, which is working wonderfully well. A point of advantage consists in the fact that the girls and women are under sympathetic observation, and any who show special aptitude for one kind or another of work receive extra training so as to develop them on the best lines. The farm produce is sold, if not required in the upkeep, and the earnings for a year' totalled 12,552 dollars; appropriation, SOOO dollars; and profits, 4552 dollars.
