PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
A QUESTION OF DISPOSAL. CHARGE AGAINST A SOCIETY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dannevirke, Last Night. "Members of the Dannefirke Patriotic Society, after yeaTß of devoted service for the welfare of active service men, are greatly hurt and disgusted at an insult put upon them by officers of the Department of Internal Affairs in suggesting that they have misappropriated some of the Society's funds, and demanding that members shall personally make restitution." So runs a portion of a resolution passed by the Society at its last meeting. The sum involved is £250 odd, £l5O of which was paid to a soldiers' institute and £IOO to the Pukeora sanatorium. The Departmental attitude is (hat such payments should not have been made, and the amount should have been handed over to the Hawke'g Bay Relief Association. Members of the Society maintain that they were a separate and distinct institution, and were perfectly within their rights in doing as they did. In addition to expressing its opinion of ihe Departmental attitude, the meeting appointed a deputation to interview the Imperial Affairs Department, if necessary.
