• PROPOSED ENGISH TOUR REASON 3TOE FOSTPONEJEENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Cricket Association, matters in connection with the proposed tour of an English cricket team were ' discussed. The chairman (Mr. F. C. Itaphael) said the Council had cabled to Sir James Allen Mil July 2 asking him to interview Jessop, through Lord Hawke, to see if a team could be brought out for the coming season, and on what terms. No reply was received till August 31 when a message was received, through the Minister of Internal Affairs, that the prospects of arranging a team um'er the captaincy of Broughton, of Xent, were bright. The terms were that New Zealand should pay shipping and travelling expenses, also the hotel bill. On September 3, a further cablegram was received from the Higli Commissioner, stating that two days' extension had been allowed for the receipt of a reply, and the team had been selected. The chairman commented on the extraordinary delay in reply to the first cablegram, and stated that he had cabled that owing to that fact the Council particularly regretted that It could not finance the trip this season.
