The Borough Council has been informed by Mr. E. Taylor, who was recently appointed borough engineer, in succession to Mr. C. E. Evans, that he is now unable to accept the position. It will, therefore, be necessary to make another appointment, the third within six months. A meeting of the executive of the Stratford A. and P. Association Was held this week, when chairmen of the various show sections were selected and the schedule was finally approved. A number of new classes are iitcludei in the schedule this year. Mr. JS. Masters, M.P., returned to Stratford to-niglit to spend the weekend. A somewhat unusual proceeding took place - at the Stratford Magistrate's Court on Friday, when a bondsman who had gone bail for a prisoner, who subsequently escaped, appeared before Mr. T. A. P. "ailey, S.M., to show cause why his bmij - should not be estreated. Sergeant * ale ' for the police, stated that on Hugust 13 a man named Albin Carson appeared at the Court on a charge 'c" assault with intent to rob, and he was remanded for a week, bail being fixed in one surety of £SO by accused and one of £r,o by another bondsman. The accused was sent to New Plymouth gaol, and, while there, Leonard Taylor Cresswell, storekeeper, of New Plymouth, agreed to become bondsman for him. The prisoner was accordingly released on bail. When the case was called at the Court on August 20 Carson did not appear, and all attempts to locate him have failed. The Magistrate said it was very unfortunate for Mr. Cresswell, but the hail would have to be estreated. It seemed a great pity Mr. Cresswell had not made further inquiries before he entered into the bond, because he appeared to have been badly let down by Carson. Ladies!
