SOLDIER SANITORIUM.
DISPUTE OVER CONTROL. By Tdliwt*.—Press Association. Christchurch, Sept. 11. The proposed transfer of tlie control of the Cashmere military sanatorium from the Defence department to the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Ajd Board lias been abandoned; The Hospital Board was to have taken over the institution on September 1, but as a result of urgent representations of nearly all the patients the Government has decided that l the Defence Department shall retain control. A special meeting of the Hospital Board was held to-day to consider .the whole matter, when very strong exception wns talcen to the attitude of the Defence Department and of SurgeonGeneral McGavin. It was decided that the whole correspondence be given to the newspapers, so that the public might judge for themselves. It was also unanimously decided that unless the letters of General McGavin and his 1 Department are withdrawn the Board will not enter into further negotiations.
