OBITUARY.
MR. M. J. BRENNAN. I Mr. M. J. Brennan, of Opunake, died yesterday morning after a lengthy illness. (,„ The late Mr. Brennan was bora in Auckland 66 years ago. He,wai in business in Tauranga for some time, and from there lie went to Wanganui, wntre he was associated with the editorial staff of the Chronicle. ' Vaeating this position he established the' Wftimate Witness for the Chronicle, and conducted it for some years. About twenty'-»lx years ago Mr. Brennan took over, the Opunake Times, o| which he WM thi proprietor for nearly Bixteen year*. His journalistic career was marked by forcible and able writing, and in tbi various towns in which he Jived he was a highly respected resident, earning; the esteem of all with whom be was »MO» dated. Of late he had been seeretary of several dairy companies,» but wa» troubled with failing health in recent years. Mr. Brennan married a Mies sister of Mr. Alistcr Brown, of the Evening Post, Wellington, and there were nine children of the marriage. They are Messrs. Reginald (Auckland), Rupert, and Arthur (Opunake), Keith (Feilding) and Alan (Mastertoo). Mid Mcsdames J. Fever (Opunake), W. Gilmour (Tauranga), E. Jones (Waltwa). and D. Ross (Opunake).
