Miss McSweency attended the Trade Union Congress and pleaded for an opportunity to address delegates. Mr. J. H. Thomas, M.P., informed the Congress that it would be madness to allow it, owing to the terrible strain she was undergoing. The Congress agreed, and she Isft the gallery shouting "traitors." —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. GOVERNMENT STAND FIRM. London Sept. 8. The Daily Chronicle publishes an interview with Mr. Lloyd George, in which the Premier says that the picture of the British Government doing to death an ardent patriot bears no relation to the facta. McSweeney was a brigadier of an organisation actively concerned in murdering 80 Irish police, many of whom were ex-soldiers. The Government had positive proof that the brigade of the Republican army to which MeSwejney was attached was concerned in these murders. Papers signed by the commandants had come into the hanefs of the Government. Some intelligent Irish Nationalists go equally as miicli in fear of their lives as Unionists. Mr. Lloyd George said McSweeney's predccessov was murdered because he would not fall in with the plans of this very gang. "We cannot and will not bow to a campaign of murder." declared Mr. Lloyd Geqrge.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Aasn.
