THE BY-ELECTION.

BAY OF PLENTY SEAT. ISSUE OP WRIT ORDERED. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.), Wellington, Last Night. In the House to-day the Prime Minister moved that the Speaker be asked to direct the clerk of writs to issue a writ for the Bay of Plenty by-election. . The Leader of the Opposition suggested that the matter should sot be rushed, as the electorate wag not a large one and a candidate could not get round it in less than a fortnight. Mr. Massey said the usual practice was for the writ to be issued within a week of direction being given, and the election must then be held within 28 days. He was informed by the electoral office that the formalities and the printing of the roll could not be completed before the end of the month. He did not want to hurry the byelection, but the Government had previously been accused of delaying such matters. The motion was carried.
