HIGH PRICES.

CAUSES EXAMINED. INFLATION OF CURRENCY. By Teletraph,—Press Asan.—Ccpytislit. Received Sept, 9, 7.20 p.m. London, Sept, 8. An interim report of a committee appointed by the chief Labor organisations to inquire into the cost of living deals with the effects of inflated currency, which the committee regards as the main factor producing high prices, and not a'shortage of commodities, as the world's production of goods has not fallen more than 20 per cent. The report states that a gradual deflation of currency till the depreciation in the terms of gold is eliminated will reduce the general level of prices about 20 per cent., but drastic deflation would cause widespread unemployment, and probably a fall in wages. The development.of the world's productive capacity would result ultimately in a substantial fall in prices.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
