RECORDING THE WEATHER.

SPECIAL DISTRICT REPORTS. SCHEME STARTS IN TARANAKI. An important scheme to provide special weather reports for each province in the Dominion, which will deal essentially with local conditions of interest to shipping, farmers, and others, will soon be put into operation, and the preliminary work is now being carried out by Mr. D. C. Bate 3, Director of the Meteorological Department. It is considered that the one general weather report now issued docs not fulfil requirementsnorthern districts are not interested in the weather in the south—and while the forecast will continue to be'issued from Wellington, the new scheme will provide each province with a local weather report issued every day. The proposal was outlined by Mr. Bates in conversation with a Daily News reporter last night. Mr. Bates has been, spending several days in Taranaki making his pr-eliminary inquiries with a view of initiating the scheme in Taranaki, and on leaving New Plymouth this morning he will visit other parte of the North Island to prepare for operations in the different districts. In each case the area covered by the local weather report will be the telegraphic district, so that as far as Taranaki is concerned the report will be compiled at iNow' Plymouth and will deal with the variations of climate as far as Patea. The report will cover all climatic conditions of interest to different, classes of the community, and it is expected to prove a great boon to the public. In each province a special officer will be appointed -to control the work, and in every case the capital of a province will be the centre issuing the report. It is proposed to issue the review daily in the morning, but complete details in this direction have not been made yet
