MONTHLY MEETING. . ' Tho Pukekura Park Board met last evening. Present: Mr. W. A. Collli (chairman), Mrs. C. E Burgess, K C. Hughes, H. Ford, W. C. Westdn, and P.- ■ 12. Stainton (secretary). MONEY FOR TEA KIOSK. A communication was received 'frdm Mr. C. H. Burgess recalling that when he , retired from the office of Mayor there was voted two years' honorarium to j the Board with the stipulation that the - money would be spent on work approved 1 of by him, and he had also agreed t° supplement the grant with a further £IOO, making £4OO in all for the purpose of erecting a tea kiosk in the' grounds. "As the £3OO hai b««fl {a current expenses," the letter continued, "and is not available, I have to advi&e, you that my offer is now withdrawn. 'J,-* am very disappointed wifh the action of, your Board, more especially as I had the assurance of your chairman that the - money would not on any account be used for any purpose other than fro which it was donated." f The chairman said that at the period i mentioned members' understood froih the then*' chairman that the money was available, • On the motion of Messrs. Hughes and Weston, it was decided that, the letter be acknowledged, and that the Board ; express its regret that the amount presented had been paid into the general account of the Board with the bank and had. been absorbed in the general expenditure. The Board would take the earliest opportunity of providing for the erection of the tea kiosk an amount at least equal to the honorarium which i had been contributed. j / MAINTENANCE WORK. The monthly report presented by the"" 1 curator (Mr. W. W. Smith) 'recorded' 1 ' that good progress had bepn made .with the general work of the park during the month.' The trees recommended by the Works Committee to be removed had been atteuded to and the whole of the wood gold. Many of the piMS, oak* and elms had had superfluous limbs removed. • The replenishing and painting of the two boats been completed and they were now in good condition for the coming season. The tree ferns injured by the frosts in the earlier 'part of August were now putting iorfh fresh vigor- • oub fronds. The fence in front ttf th». tea Tooins had been removed, effecting great improvement. ' < GENERAL.
