Cabinet has approved an increase in school teachers' salaries, involving an additional annual expenditure of £450,000. Brisbane, Sept. 7. The general elections will be held on October 9. ' Melbourne, Sept. 7. In the House of Representatives, Sir Joseph Cook stated that £22,C00.000 was in sight for the Peace Loan. He hoped, in a day or two, to be able to announce the full amount subscribed. There have been heavy rains: throughout the State, many low-lying' areas being inundated.
