There were occasional withdrawals in inferior sorts; crossbreda firm, '"The Ashley Downs clip brought 25d. KThe Bradford market is not reflecting the activity of the London sales. Business on the new basis is practically nil, owinfi -to tojmiak'CTß generally maintaining quotations, which were as follow: 64's 102 d, GO'S 50d, 46's 32d. Copper.—Spot £95 ss; three months £96 10s, electrolytic £lll and CU7. Lead, £36 10s . Spelter, £3B 10s and £4O. Tin, £269 5s and £276 ss. Silver, 58% d. LONDON WOOL SALES. ADVANCES RECORDED. Received Sept. 5, 6.5 p.m. London, Sep! 3. The wool Bales closed Arm. Fine merinos showed a ten per cent, advance on previous sales; Yorkshire combings five per cent.; good United States wools fully ten per cent.; fine eross))r«ls fully five per cent. Vuues of medium and low Borts were unchanged, but there was an Improved tone. There were the usual withdrawals In low sorts. Fine slipes showed fully five per cent, advance. Other sorts were unchanged. Ninety thousand bales were offered, and 70 per cent, were sold. The next sales open on September 21.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Awn. 1 UNION BANK DIVIDEND. London, Sept. 3. The Union Bank of Australia has declared an interim dividend of 40s per share, with a bonus of 12s. WAIKATO STOCK MARKET. At Haiinillon, on Friday, the yarding of both cattle and sheep was below the average, and for the season of the year noticeably small, ■the beef pens were practically empty. Competition for the store cattle lacked briskness generally although the whole yarding was ultimately disposed of Empty cows made from £5 7s 6d to £7 7s Bd, 2 and .2%-year steers £5 15s to £7 ss. A line of 2-year empty heifers drew fair bidding; and realised up to £7 ss. Yearlings to 15months of the same lot £4 10s, The yearling chttle yarded were mainly all inferior quality, but competition in thils section was keener. Values ranged between £3 to £3 10s, fat sheep were not plentiful. Values however were well in advance of last week's rates. Wethers made £2 12s, ewes £2 Is Od, hoggets 345, a line of empty store «wes made 25s 3d for the best; others 24s 9H. Pigs were again In fair supply, and although good competlon wss met with values on the whole were somewhat under the previous week. Baconers made to £7 7s 6d, porkers £4 15s to £5 12s 6d, slips £3 to £4 ss, weaners 12s to £2 Bs, fresh-dropped calves which are increasing in supply from Gs 6d to 9s.
LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. (Hawera) report : On Saturday, 28th., we held our Opunake spring horse fair, when more than the advertised number of all classes came forward. Practically the whole yarding changed owners, and satisfactory prices were obtained. We quote: Draught!) £36 to £52. half-draughts £2l to £26 10s, hacks to £2O. At Kakaramea, on Monday, 30th. nit;, we had a good yarding of all calsses of stock, Especially dairy cattle. Most of the latter were disposed of at improved rates. We Quote: two, four and slx-t.ooth wethers, small Sis 6d, fat and forward cows £8 10s Od to £ll, medium sorts £0 to £7 10s, light ditto to £4 15s, empty heifers to £6 10s, yearling [heifers, good quality £5 7s 6d to £8 17s 6d, others to £3 ss, store pigs to £2 10s. small ditto 325, cows to £5, boar £5, dairy cows best to £22, others £9 to £lB, springing heifers £l2 15s to £22 10s, ditto calved £l4 10s. At Eltham, on Wednesday, a moderate yarding was offered, with no chaijge In the market. We quote: Forward cows £8 5s to £lO, medium stores £5 to £0 10b, lighter sorts £3 to £4 17s, empty heifers to £8 16s, yearling heifers (good) £5 9s, others to £3, store pigs £2 4s to £2 7s, hoggets 33s 4d, dairy cores £l2 10s to £ls 15s, heifers £l2 10s to £23 10s. On Thursday, at Hawera, dairy stock werd penned In large numbers. For these bidding was brisk throughout, and we report a very satisfactory sale. Late rates ruled' for store cattle. We quote: Dairy cows test £2O 10s to £25, others to £l6, springing heifers £ll to £2O, calved ditto £l9 10s, forward cows to £8 10s. medium £5 5a to £7, others £2 10s to £4 2s 6d, empty heifers to £6 18s, forward ditto £7 10s, in calf ditto £5 10s, steers (rising three years) £8 Bs 6d, 15-months heifers £5, yearling ditto £3 Is to £4 6s, weaner pigs (good) £2 13s, others £2 12s fid to £4 4s, small 255, unbroken milk carters (two years) £6 10s to £9 15s, 3-year ditto £lB, fat wethers 38s, hoggets 24s 6d, 3, 4, and 6-tootli ewes and ms. 15s.
