DISTRICT NEWS.
OEATO. (From a Correspondent.) On Sunday, tha, 18th inst.. the Methodist Sunday, School htld their anniversary. The service* were conducted in the afternoon hy Air. K. 0. M. King, and in the evening hy Mr. Aker, botli being well attended. On the following Wednesday a prize-jiving social was held in the church. A special the evening was the singing of the children. The balance sheet showed a. credit of over £3. The superintendent (Mrs. King) spoke of the progress which the school had made during the year, whilst a very instructive address to the parents and children was given by Rev. E. H. Olds, B.A. A presentation of a dressing ease was made to Miss Pearce, who is leaving the district for Feilding. Miss Pearce has been secretary of the school for over three years, also organist of the Sunday School and church. Mr. King, on making the presentation, spoke of the good work that had been done by Miss Pearce, who suitably replied. On Thursday, 29th ult., a sale of gifts and concert was held in the Hempton Hall in aid of the Methodist Chureh Trust. There was a fair display of goods, which realised about £3l. The contributors to the concert were: Miss McMillan, pianforte solo; Miss Harford, song; Mrs. Larking, song; Master Harold Larking, recitation; Mrs. King, recitation; Mr. Willis, song; Mrs. Larking, recitation;'concluding with a sketch entitled "Aunt's Opinion," those taking part being Mrs. Larking, Miss Pearce, Miss Wadsworth, Mrs. King, and Mr! Baker. I
