At Stratford dairy salo on the same day there was a. ready and keen demand for good quality sorts, and those close to profit. Backward calrers were little' sought after. On the s::me day at Inglenood we conducted a clearing sale on account of Mr. F. Goodwin, and report a satisfactory clearance throughout. The cows, which were In rather low condition and many backward in calving, sold well up to urosent quotations. The herd of 28 cows averaged £l2 (is Bd, the best cows realising from £l7 to £2O. Other sales were: Sows In pig £7 to £l2 15s; sows and litters, £7 to £8 to £10; springing heifers, £ls; mixed woaners, £2 15s. A few implements ond a small quantity of sundries sold well. At Inglewood on August 25th. yearlings sold with a strengthening tone. 'Other classes of •totes showed ll(tle Improvement. Sheep were easier. The dairy market also had « slackening tone, no doubt due to the present shortage of feed, good conditioned and closeup sorts only being sought after. There was a strong attendance of buyers, and although the quality and condition of Ihe cattle taken on. the whole was only fair a most satisfactory clearance was made. On account of Mr. A. The Farmers' Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Limited, report: On Friday and Saturday, the 20th and 21st insts, we conducted our Spring Horse Fair, when wc offered under the hammer an entry of. about 300 horses. The entry was made up of a fair proportion of good useful plough sorts, together with the usual number of hacks, harness and done horses. The number of gig shatters was very small, horses of this description being now well In the minority. From the commencement the sale was brisk, bidding being particularly keen between local farmers for sprlug carters and light plough ■ horses ready to go into work. The following were soma of the prices realised: Good spring carters from £3O to £54, medium sorts from £26 10s to £35, hacks to £l7 10s, Inferior sorts to £3 7s 6d. I YEARLING JERSEY HEIFER FAIR. HIGH PRICES FOR YEARLING JERSEYS. Probably one of the most successful sales of yearling Jersey heifers ever conducted In Taranaki was held on account of Mr. J. F. Stevenson in Olover Road sale yards. Hawero, by the Farmers' Co-operative Organirftlon Society in conjunction with the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile. The cattle were in good condl-
tion, and showed plenty of quality. Competition was particularly keen, the- outside buyers proving too strong for the local farmers. Prices were as follows: Pen of 31 heifers, £lB 10s; 30 heifers, £l7; 47 heifors, £18; other pens sold from £8 2s Od to £l4 ss; pens containing not quite so good quality, £4 4s to £7 17s 6d. The whole entry of 520 made a' record average of £lO 12s 9d. AUCKLAND STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency. Company, Ltd., report: At Westfield storo sale on Thursday last, dairy cows and heifers sold under steady competition at late rates. Extra choice dairy cows, close to profit, sold to £3O, good coW3 and heifers £ls to £22, others £7 to £l4 15s. Store cattle In small numbers sold readily: Empty cows and heifers £4 10s to £7, yearling to IS-months steerß £3 10s to £0 ss, ditto heifers £4 to £6 10s, bulls £5 10s to £l2 10s. On Saturday, at Waluku, wo had a large entry of cattle and a heavy yarding of pigs. Practically everything penned changed hands under steady competition. At Kaupapakapa, on Tuesday, we had an extra large yarding and report a most successful sale, practically everything penned changing hands: Three and a half year to four-year steers, £ll 17s Od to £l4; threeyear steers, £9 to £ll 10s; two-year to' two and a half year steers, £C 10s to £8 17s Cd; yearling to 18-month steers, £3 12s 6d to £6 ss; yearling to 18-month heifers, £8 10s to £6; empty cows and heifers, £4 10s to £6 15s; bulls, £4 to' £9; springers, best £l2 to £l7, others £0 to £ll 15s. At Westfield fat stock market, on Wednesday, beef was penned in average numbers, being mostly of; good quality. Competition was keen, last week's prices ruling. Choice oxen sold to £3 per 1001b, prime £2 15s to £2 19s per 1001b; plain and rough oxen, £1 17s to £2 10s per 1001b, cow and heifer beef, £2 5s to £2 12s per 1001b. Steers sold at from, for best, £l9 10s to the high price of £4O for an extra heavy bullock fattened by Mr. R. A. Bent. Sheep ware penned In less than average numbers, selling under keen competition at improved prices. No extra heavy ewes or wethers were penned. Heavy prime wethers, £2 5s to £2 10s 6d; medium, £2 2s to £2 4s 9d; light and unfinished, £1 18s 6d to £2 Is 9d: heavy prime ewes, £1 10s Bd to £2 4s; medium, £1 17s to £1 19s 3d; light prime and unfinished, £1 13s to £1 10s 9d; heavy pr|me nuggets, .£1 18s to £2 3s 3d; medium primo hoggets, £1 14s to £1 17b «d; light primo and unfinished hoggets, £1 10s to £1 13s 9d. Calves were penned in large numbers, prices being easier. Runners, £6 10s to £ll. Pigs were penned In smaller numbers than usual, and sold under keen competition at improved values.
