QUEENSLAND LOANS.
AN AUTHORISED STATEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press A.sS!i.—Copyright London, August 26. Mr. J, M. Hunter (Agent-General for Queensland), referring to the British Australasian Society's letter, has authorised the following statement:—"When Mr. Theodore met the pastoral representatives lie offered to repeal the Act in the current session, and asked that the oppoI sition shown to the Government's loan proposals should be withdrawn, and that the previous harmonious* relations with thti investing public and Queensland might o-u restored. The deputation, while cheerfully accepting Mr. Theodore's offer, desired a further pledge not to introduce a pastoral lease tax. Mr. Theodore regarded this as an attempt to subordinate the legislative functions of a sovereign State to a dictatorship of outside irresponsible parties. Mr. Theodore held that this was more than even the Imperial Government itself would ask a sovereign State to submit to."—Aus.NT.Z. Cable Assn,
