— ; j NEW ZEALAND'S RESOURCES. j Under the new scheme for generating electricity on a largo scale in Britain it is estimated that 55,000.000 tons of coal can be saved annually. This was mentioned by Six Arnold j Gridley to a Daily News reporter last night. He said that steam-driven plants consume seven pounds of coal peT horsepower generated, but in the modern power-house the consumption has been reduced to a pound and a half per horsepower. Sir Arnold is strongly in favor of the development of New' Zealand's hydro sources, wherever commercially possible, as the advantages of air- ample supply of electricity are very great.
