FARM AND DAIRY.
When the difficulty in obtaining calves' veils was being discussed at the annual meeting of the Manutahi Dairy Co. on Wednesday one shareholder put the position very frankly. "The dairy farmers," he said, "were getting too prosperous." There was a time when a farmer did not mind skinning ,a calf for the Is Od the hide was worth, but to-day he is unwilling to spend the few moments necessary to remove the veil, for which 2s fid can be obtained. The London meat journal Cold Storage lias the following on refrigerating stores in France, which should go to show that there is a possibility of developing a trade for our meat in that country:— "The repid advancement of the cold storage industry in Franco may be gauged by particulars published in La Revue Onerale du Froid. Details are given of twenty-one new companies, whose aggregate capital, al -it francs to the £, amounts to The largest of these concerns, the Compagnie d'AHkentation et d'lnstailations Frigirifiques, with a capital of forty million francs, lias been formed by the Uanqe de IT'iiion i'ai'isienne and important French Colonial interests."
