INVERCARGILL SUPREME COURT. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. At the Supremo Court to-day, James Taylor Brass and Thomas White were acquitted on a charge of cattle-stealing and receiving. WHANGAREI DIVORCE CASE. Auckland, August 27. In the Supreme Court a decree nisi was granted in the case of Leslie King Beale, of Whangarei, versus Olive Muriel Beale, in which adultery with Percy Western, of Whangarei, was alleged. The petitioner claimed £SOO damages. The jury found that the respondent and co-respondent were guilty, and assessed the damages at £IOO. The jury found that the petitioner was not guilty of misconduct as alleged by the respondent. HOSPITAL FOR WHAKATANE. Whakatane, August 27. The Bay of Plenty Hospital Board has instructed its architect to proceed immediately to eroet an up-to-date hospital at Whakatane, as approved by the Minister. The structure is to be built by day labor at a cost of £15,000 or £20,000. / ADULTERATION OF CORDIALS. Auckland, August 27. In tho Police Court, Hollis nnd Walls, cordial manufacturers, admitted adulteration of raspberry cordial, which analysis showed v/:is nothing more than a mixture of water, sugar, and red ink or some such aniline coloring. The defendants declared that all the ingrients were perfectly, harmless. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., said that srch adulteration was reprehensible in the hiehest degree, and imposed a fine of £SO and costs.
CONTEMPT OF COURT. Cliristchurch. August 27. An unusual case was, heard by Mr. Justice Herdman in the Supreme Court to-day. Application was made on behalf of the Attorney-General for an order to' convict Thomas Patrick Williams, proprietor of the Westport Times nnd Star, for contempt of court, in publishing matter relating to the action of the stipendiary magistrate at Westport in dealing with youths who refused to drill, or. an as alternative, that a writ of attachment be issued against the respondent. His Honor said that the offence was a serious one, but, as theCrown had taken a lenient view, he would impose a fine of £lO, with costs. THE HOKITIKA FLOODS. ITokitika, August 27. Last evening, following on a northerly gale, the sea made an encroachment near north of Revell Street. One heavy wave came over the bank, damaging back fences and flooding some residences, but otherwise doing no damage. Conditions to-day were normal, except that a heavy sea was running.
