STRIKE WEAPON.
MINERS TAKE BALLOT. By Telegraph.—JJress Association. London, August 24. The miners' strike ballot is commencing to-day, and will be completed on Wednesday. A two-thirds majority is iequired. A strike is regarded as a foregone conclusion, but there is divided opinion among the leaders regarding its advisability. Mr. Clynes urges public discussions behvtfcn the miners' leaders and the Government. There nre many protests against the |iit Ij'iys aged sixteen being allowed to vote '.hi the same terms as grown men with families. , Tlie export of food is being stopped in view of the possibility of a strike.— Aits.-N.Z. Cable Tlie newspapers nre interviewing trade union official* regarding the strike. Many are of the opinion that the Miners' Federation should not singly have the power to call a strike causing widespread misery and unemployment among industrial workers. It is expected that the question of intervention in the coal strike will be discussed at the Trade Union Congress meeting at Portsmouth on September 6.
