COMMUNICATIONS BUREAU By Telegraph .—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 25. On reference to the postal authorities it has been ascertained that there ia no truth in the rumour that official inquiries in Wanganui And cither parts of the Dominion might 'be held as the result of the, recent prosecution of a storekeeper postmaster for failing to account for bureau communications. The department states it is not a fact that the prac.lce of obtaining free communications has been, in existence, nor are other portions of the Dominion in any way involved. Occasionally individual employees have erred in the past, and no doubt some will in future, but the precautions taken to guard against any repetitions are adequate. WORKERS' EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION. , Wellington, Aug. 25. The first Dominion Conference of the Workers' Educational Association opened to-day, Professor T. A. Hunter (Wellington presiding. There was some discussion on a motion by Mr J. M. A. Ilott (Wellington), "That the scope of the Workers' Educational Association shall be cultural and not vocational." It was decided to refer the question to a committee for a report.

On the motion of. the Hon. J. A. Hanan, it wa9 decided: "That a national organisation be formed with a view to linking up the various activities of the W.E.A. work in this country and to bring about co-ordination of the work on national lines, and, with that object in view, that a Dominion constitution be drawn up." COAL FROM AUSTRALIA. Wanganui, August 25. The barquentine White Pine arrived last evening from Newcastle direct, with a cargo of coal. The supplies Will relieve the position of the gas works and some essential industries, where the shortage was acute. The vessel had a very rough passage ntross, the trip taking 22 days. Exceptionally heavy igales were met with, and the decks were awash for eighteen days.
