BALD ROCK.
I .HUGE AUCKLAND QUARRY. People who are familiar with North Auckland have heard of Bald Rock,' a huge deposit of solid rock near Kaiwaka. The hill is 750 feet high, and its stone is in two distinct formatiftns—one is described as a slatey formation, and is very Suitable for road metal; the other is evidently one enormous stratum of solid rock, and makes a handsome building stone. It is now proposed to quarry this enormous supply of rock, and to make it available for the purposes of good roads and splendid buildings. The contour of the deposits and surrounding land is such as to provide a working scheme by^gravitation. Thes reports of declare the stage to be "the finest and best stone in New Zealand for building stone, and stone for the construction off'roads and engineering 1 works. The crushing strength of this stone reaches'the highest test yet put on record, showing as it does an average of J9lO tons per foot crushing strength." ' 'For stone of this class there is a keen and "constant demand from county councils,, the Public Works Department, engineers, builders, and contractors. As the j supply at Bald Rock it practicaVLy limitless, there should be a prosperous future before the Pukekaroro Quarries, Ltd., which is being formed with a capita) of ■ £IOO,OOO to work the deposits. Prompt application should be made fdr shares. The prospectus and application forms obtained from the broker, Mr. J. S>,& Medley, Egmont Street. New Plymouth, or from any branch of the National Bank, or Messrs. Colbeck and Griffiths, chief brokers, N.Z. Insurance Buildings, Queen Street, Auckland.
