TARANAKI daily news. STRATFORD .AGENCY. Advertisements and items or news for publication should be left at tlio office of the local representative, W. J. Wilson, next Union Bank. August 25. There was a good attendance at the tea meeting for the mothers and wives of soldiers, which was held in the Town Hall yesterday under the auspices of the Women's National Eeserve. Mrs. C. Martin, president of the branch, occupied the chair, and during the afternoon musical items were 'supplied by Mesdames Hollands, Maunsell, J. H. Thompson, and Dixon, and Misses Maunsell, Jones, and Robson.

The dwelling-house of Mr. G. Perrott, nf Standish Road, Toko was burned down at one o'clock this morning. The tire had a good hold when discovered, and nothing was saved from it. It is understood there was no insurance on the building or contents.

Dr. Steven reported to-night that there was very little difference in the condition of the Rev. Father Maples. He will be confined to his room for another two or three weeEs. '

Mr. Edward Tweedle, the cyclist who collided with a motor ear at Tariki on Monday, has not shown any signs of improvement up to date. The medical superintendent of the Stratford Hospital reported to-night that hi 13 still in a critical condition.

The following nominations have been received by the secretary of the Stratford Racing Club (Mr. A. Coleman) for positions to be filled at the annual meeting of the club:—President, Mr. S. Pitt; vice-president, Mr. M. McDonald; member of committee elected by numbers, Mr. A. Stewart. As only one nomination was received for each position, the gentlemen named* will be declared elected at the meeting.
