BUSY SHIPPING.

OVERSEA CARGO LANDED. SOUTHERN CONGESTION RELIEVED. Tlie recent congestion of Taranaki Merchandise at southern ports was relieved somewhat by shipments by the Mapourika, which arrived at New Plymouth yesterday morning 'with 700 tons of general cargo from Wellington and Lyttelton, This cargo included transhipments from' several Home liners, some of which arrived in New Zealand some weeks ago, including the Ruahine, Rimutaka, Marama, Remuera, Northumberland, Port Alma, Port Denison City of Winchester, Karamea, Moeraki, and Westralia.

It was recently stated officially that the Flora will replace the Mapourika in the Weflington-Lytteßon-New Plymouth service. Yesterday's Dominion has the following; "In connection with the withdrawal of the Mapourika from the Wei-lington-Lyttelton-New Plymouth service to take up the Cook Strait run, it is stated, says an exchange, that the Taviuni, which is at present on her way from Australia to New Zealand, will be permanently placed on the Lyttelton-Nelson-New Plymouth services." A Daily News reporter was informed at the New Plymouth office of the Union Company tyst night that they had no information supporting this statement. A very busy shipping week is being experienced at New Plymouth this week, particularly on account of the loading of the Home liner Otarama. Reinforcements of 30 men were secured from' Waitara to work the Otarama, and it is expected that she will sail for Waitara at the end of the week. During the week the Ngakuta discharged over 1000 tons of cement for distribution throughout Taraneki, while the Glaucus brought 1000 tons of phosphates from Surprise Island, and completed discharging last night. Besides these vessels coastal shipping has been active. Southern cargo totalling 170 tons has been discharged by the Flora, and yesterday the Mapourika brought 700 tons of cargo. The Rimu landed 130 tons on Tuesday, ,and will arrive to-morrow with another shipment from Auckland. I
