LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S "CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the Following cablegram, dated August 21, from the High Commissioner lor New Zealand, London:— "Meat—Market steadier. Better demand for fresh beef and mutton, of which there is a small supply. Prices tinner, beef, Is 3Ad; mutton, Is lOd; lamb, Is lid. Imported: Maximum Dyed prices unchanged. '•Butter.—Government price will be raised Lo 2s SJd wholesale, 3a retail as from August 23. Irish: Small supply, quoted at £2l to £2l 10s, but demand is not brisk at this figure. ' ed, but milk supplies are likely to decrease from now on. Also reported that Food Ministry has been unable to conclude agreement with Denmark for new contract on account of high prices. Present contract expires at the end of this month, ''Cheese.—English: Demand continues slow, and is chiefly for lower-priced descriptions. Quotations range from £8 to £9 2s; Canadian, spot, demand is quiet: . White. £7 13s; colored, £7 17s. Quotations c.i.f. firmer, colored £B, but no business has been done. "Hemp.—Manila market firmer. Moderate business has been done. *.!' grade, April-June to June-August, shipments now quoted at £64; August-October shipment sold £O4 10s and up. New Zealand market quiet. Highpoints, spot, •sold £54; August-October shipment quoted at £53 sellers; fair, spot, £52; August-October shipment, £51." LONDON TALLOW SALES.
