GENERAL ITEMS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Received August 2:1, 9.30 p.m. Sydney, August 23 Parer and Mcintosh were given a. civic reception at the Town Hall. A reward fund has been opened for the aviators. The Hurstville railway smash inquest was resumed. The driver of the train from Sydney to Hurstville gave evidence that he saw a train ahead waiting for for the starting signal, and he knew it would have to get off the road before his train began to shunt. When he received a signal he began to shunt, but he had not gone far when he felt the crash of a collision. He did not think it his duty to inform the signalman that he had seen a train waiting ahead. He took it for granted the signalman knew. Melbourne, August 23. Badak share prices have collapsed as a result of a report from examining experts that the mine is valueless. Contributing shares sold at 9d, and paid up shares at 144 d. The Government refused to grant a passport to Orton,' discoverer of the mine, stating that he must not leave the country. Piastre, a Melbourne Cup winner, was sold by the Defence Department to Dalgety, Ltd., for £2IOO.
