The tierman casualties at Kattowitz were twenty killed and seventy severely wounded. The French had nine killed. It is stated that coal from the Transvaal mines, via Delagoa, arriving at English ports, is cheaper, than coal delivered from British coalfields to local ports. One shipment sold at £2 a ton less than the export price of British coal.
French newspapers sharply criticise the action of Mr. Tower, British High Commissioner at Dantzig, in refusing to permit the landing of French Munitions for the Poles. The British Commissioner at transCaucasia reports that the Armenians have signed a treaty with the Bolsheviks including permission for a free passage of Red troops through Armenia. The Mexican Foreign Office has cancelled the Spanish Consult exequatur, due to his alleged refusal to vise passports of Mexicans going to Spain. It is thought likely the Spanish Minister's passports will also be served shortly. The United States Department of Labor announced that more than 6000 immigrants are arriving at New York daily, and approximately 700,000 arrived in the United States for the year ending June 30. Foreign steamship companies have reported to the immigration officials that all available accommodation for the year in advance has been booked by prospective immigrants. Ottawa, August 18.
It Is announced that the Canadian Air Board will soon establish a trans-Con-tinental air route with express aeroplanes offering a 50-hour service between Halifax and Vancouver, carrying passengers and mails, Light freight eon trol stations will be established at intervals of 20 miles, with airports at all the principal cities along the rbute. —
