ALL RANKS SEEK MORE PAY. By Telegraph —Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 22, 5.6 p.m. London, August 19. A crisis is threatened in the merchant service. Officers, engineers, stokers, and seamen urge increased wages, and assert that the shipowners persistently delayed consideration of their claims. Engineers demand an immediate 50 per cent increase; officers demand forty per cent; and the seamen and firemen have submitted a graded scale of 30 to 40 per cent increase. It is reported the shipowners are dghast at the demands.—-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
