Mr. Massey to-day received * «ult. gram from Mr. Cockayne, the Agricultural Department's officer who is in Australia investigating the mattef ofthe' potatoe -embargo, stating that Mr. Hughes agrees to send an expert to New Zealand, and if the expert reports favorably the embargo will be removed. [For some time the export of potatoes to Australia has been prohibited, be* cause it was alleged the crops were infected with pest. This the growers denied, and Mr. Cockayne and Mr, Buxton (representing the growers) went' to Australia, with the. result given in the cable. The effect of the embargo has been to produce an over supply of potatoes on th» New Zealand market, and if the embargo is lifted prices may be p-v.i'tted to harden.]
